Community Heritage Grants - 2023

The Community Heritage Grants (CHG) program supports community-based organisations to identify and care for Australian cultural heritage collections which are publicly accessible, locally held and nationally significant.

CHG is open to a wide range of non-profit, incorporated organisations who hold nationally significant collections. It focuses on supporting small, local groups with limited funding staff, who would benefit from access to professional cultural heritage expertise. They particularly welcome applications from Indigenous and multicultural organisations.

CHG assists organisations over multiple years to progress through three stages to:
1. better understand their collection and articulate its significance,
2. identify its storage and preservation needs collection care recommendations, and
3. implement practical improvements.

CHG also seeks to increase the knowledge and skills of paid and volunteer staff and their ability to care for heritage collections with all Australians. Applications for training projects are welcomed at any stage.
The annual round offers cash grants of up to $20,000, for a staged program where organisations apply for funding in the following order:

1. Significance Assessment
2. Preservation Needs Assessment
3. Collection Management and Conservation activities
4. Other
