New England North West Film Stategy
The New England North West Film Strategy has achieved a new milestone with the appointment of a project coordinator, Kerry Herman. Kerry is a film /television producer and project manager and has over twenty years industry experience. She has worked with the Australian Directors Guild, The Australian Film Institute and the NSW Film and Television Office for whom she developed and produced a package of location marketing materials. Kerry leads her own production company, Stonebridge Productions.
Project Description:
The project is designed to encourage and cultivate the development of Film and Television Industry in the New England North West region. Funds will cover consultancy, marketing and promotion costs to develop a set of information resources for the region. These resources include a database of locations, images, services and accommodation references that will be used to promote the region’s filming opportunities and infrastructure to the film industry.
The New England North West region boasts a number of picturesque natural attractions, heritage-listed National Parks and unique streetscapes that are very apt for film making and documentaries.
This project will raise the profile of the area and its attribute’s within the film industry, boosting the region’s economy through an increase in projects undertaken in the area, along with tourism to the area.The project has financial support provided by the Walcha Council, Uralla Shire Council, Tamworth Regional Council, NSW Department of State and Regional Development, Narrabri Shire Council, Moree Plains Shire Council, Liverpool Plains Shire Council, Inverell Shire Council, Gwydir Shire Council, Gunnedah Shire Council and Glen Innes Severn Council.
Aims and Objectives:
- To promote the New England North West region as a TV and Film location
- To encourage an entrepreneurial film culture within the region
- To work with existing film/TV industry and education providers (school, TAFE, UNE) to provide opportunities for work experience and skills development in the industry
- To develop and implement a Film NENW brand and associated promotional material
- To develop and maintain a Film NENW website
- To develop and maintain a photo/film database for the region and allow Local Government access to the material to be used in their own marketing publications
- To develop and maintain skills/resources database and directory for the region
- To ensure that the regional skills/resources directory is included in the national directory
- To react quickly and effectively to film and TV enquiries through establishment of NENW Film “hotline” and by working with the Film School in responding to the enquiries.
- To work with Local Government across the region in establishing film protocols and policies.
