Environmental Water Recovery - Northern Basin

The chart to the right summarises the environmental water recovery progress in the catchments of the Northern Basin covered by RDANI as of June 2013.

In both the Namoi and Gwydir, more than the required amount of local water recovery has been achieved through buy-backs and works and measures.

For the Border Rivers, there are still small volumes required to meet local environmental needs.

The bars on the right of the chart show the situation for downstream environmental water requirements for the entire Northern Basin (i.e. the Barwon-Darling Watercourse, Condamine-Balonne, Gwydir, Interesecting Streams, Macquarie-Castlereagh, Moonie, Namoi, Paroo, Warrego and Border Rivers).  143 GL were required from these catchments to provide additional flows downstream in the Barwon-Darling system.  65 GL have been recovered, leaving 78 GL still to be recovered.

At this stage, it is unclear which catchments will supply the remaining 78 GL.
