The NSW Government are investing $20 million to assist eligible regional NSW destinations by co-funding the purchase and installation of EV chargers.
An investment in EV charging by your business will:
- attract new visitors to your site
- enhance your visitors’ experience
- increase the average length of time visitors spend at your site
- enable you to promote your location and EV charging facilities through online charging maps, future EV tourist drives, and word of mouth.
The grants will fund the following for up to 4 EV chargers per site:
- 75% towards the cost of an eligible 7 kW and/or 22 kW electric vehicle charger(s)
- 75% towards the cost of installation (capped at $1,000 per charger)
- 50% towards a 2-year EV charger software subscription from the EV charger software list.
To be eligible, you must be:
- located in an eligible regional NSW local government area (LGA) (All Northern Inland LGAs are eligible)
- an approved destination type as listed on page 25 of the guidelines
- have no more than one existing EV charger installed.
- able to meet additional eligibility requirements for each site as outlined in the guidelines.
There is no limit to the total number of sites you can apply under the grants, as long as each site meets the eligibility criteria outlined on page 20 of the grant guidelines and are registered under the same Australian Business Number (ABN). Each site must be owned or operated (for example, through a lease arrangement) by you as the applicant organisation. Requests for funding of EV charger(s) at each site within an application will be assessed individually, and there is no guarantee that all sites within an application will be approved. If your site(s) are registered under different ABNs, you must submit separate applications.
Currently education facilities, such as TAFE campuses, schools, universities, are not deemed as a standalone eligible destination type under the grants. However, heritage buildings or libraries within a TAFE or university campus, may be considered an eligible building type if there is a clear case that the building/site is part of a dedicated tourism-related offering within the NSW visitor economy, and all other eligibility criteria are met. Contact the destination charging grants team I at destination.charging@environment.nsw.gov.au if you are unsure about your site’s eligibility.
