Fresh Start Program - Round 3

Funding to employ an additional 353 apprentices in the local government sector across the state. This is in line with the NSW Government’s goal for 15 per cent of local government workforces being apprentices and trainees.

NSW Governments objective of the grant is to increase the local government workforce through the employment of apprentices (recruits) over 6 years commencing January 2026.

• This program will provide funding for wages and 15% of oncosts for the employment of additional apprentices
• Build capacity in councils and a stronger local government sector.
• Create positive social outcomes by generating local education, training and employment opportunities particularly targeting youth.
• Contribute to the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.

Local government organisations eligible for funding are defined to be either:

• a council,
• a county council,
• a joint organisation.
