Regional Development Australia Northern Inland seeking a slice of $1 billion regional fund.

Northern Inland NSW could achieve major benefits if the 20 applications Regional Development Australia Northern Inland (RDANI) has officially endorsed from across the region are funded by the Commonwealth Government.

Round one of the Regional Development Australia Fund (RDAF) closed last Friday and RDANI was pleased all projects they endorsed met at least two or more of their regional priorities. The RDAF is an Australian Government initiative that will spend $1 billion over five years to regenerate regional Australia.

Chairman of RDANI Mal Peters said, “While it wasn’t the job of our committee to assess the applications for eligibility it was our task to ensure that they were in line with our vision for the region. It was fantastic to see so many innovative projects coming from the Northern Inland.”

“The projects endorsed by RDANI range from airport redevelopments and street beautification programs to building new health clinics and rejuvenating community assets such as museums and sporting facilities. The scope of these projects demonstrates the broad needs of regional Australia,” Mr Peters said.

Along with the RDA Fund, regional Australia also had a big week as a result of the Federal Budget. This budget was very favourable to regional communities with $1.8 billion committed to regional hospitals and health services, $500 million dedicated to building regional higher education and vocational education and training centres and $109.9 million set aside for regional universities.

“It’s been a huge week for regional communities all over Australia and this budget has just confirmed it,” said RDANI Chairman Mal Peters.

“At long last we have a political situation that is entrenching regionalism within all levels of government. If we are going to encourage people to leave the feedlots of our overcrowded cities, we need smart projects and initiatives that focus on jobs and improving the liveability of our regions.”
