Growing the Digital Economy in Northern Inland NSW

Regional Development Australia Northern Inland (RDANI) is developing a Digital Economy Strategy for Business and is keen to ensure that organisations across the region capture the benefits of high-speed broadband. The RDANI Strategy will focus predominantly on how high‐speed broadband can contribute towards the growth of existing private sector businesses, together with opportunities for ‘new’ technology firms to establish themselves in the region.

“Put simply, the Digital Economy is the global network of economic and social activities that are enabled by platforms such as the internet and experts put the potential value of this economic sector at somewhere between 7% & 12% of our Regional Domestic Product. This could mean great things for our local economies and businesses need to be empowered and prepared for change in this area to ensure they maximize their own opportunities,” said RDANI Executive Officer, Nathan Axelsson.

With funding from the Department of Regional Australia, RDANI have awarded a contract to locally-based Attentive Consulting to develop the strategy. Attentive Consulting have already created a number of strategies for Councils, and regional organisations across Australia and have a wealth of resources to provide significant insight into the positive effects of the Digital Economy for local enterprise throughout the region.

“We want to understand how our local businesses can use high-speed broadband to increase access to new markets, increase productivity, grow sales and revenue, increase employment and create innovation,” Mr Axelsson said.

To assist in the development of the strategy a number of key consultations and Digital Awareness and Innovation Workshops will be held with businesses across the region between April and June 2013. In addition, there is an online survey for local businesses in the region to help gauge current digital activity around business development. This survey can be found at www.rdadigital.org.

Anyone interested in finding out more, or participating in the workshops, can contact RDANI on (02) 6771 2790 or email rda@attentiveconsulting.com.au.
