Deadline approaching for the Northern Inland Innovation Awards

“It is important to promote what sets your business or organisation apart, how you are innovative or special. So, get online and get an entry into the Regional Development Australia Northern Inland (RDANI) Innovation Awards before the Monday, 21 September deadline hits,” urged RDANI Acting-Executive Officer, David Thompson.

The Northern Inland Innovation Awards are in their 8th year and businesses, public and not-for-profit organisations, together with the 13 Local Councils are being encouraged to enter themselves.

This year, these regional Awards will be presented at the Glen Innes Services Club on Friday, 20 November. Former ABC radio presenter and veteran Tamworth thespian Bill Gleeson will MC the gala night and 2014 Innovation of the Award recipient, Professor David Lamb (of UNE’s Smart Farm) will provide words of innovative inspiration. “As well as entering, you can book tickets for the dinner and presentation night on the Awards’ website: www.niia.com.au” Mr Thompson said. “We’ve seen some great entries come in so far but we’d particularly like to see more entries from the Agriculture, Professional and Government, as well as Manufacturing and Engineering sectors.”

RDANI Chair, Russell Stewart said there are great innovators throughout the region. “Now is the time to stop and think about how you’ve managed to do things better, differently, or just survive through difficult times, as the result of an innovative product, service or approach. You should be proud enough to put you hand up for recognition and maybe your story will inspire or educate others,” Mr Stewart said. “It won’t take long to share your story. Simply go to the Awards’ website: www.niia.com.au to enter by Monday, 21 September.”

The Innovation Awards are an initiative of Regional Development Australia Northern Inland (RDANI). “The regional significance of these awards is reflected by the quality of the organisations supporting them. This year, we are grateful for support from Prime Super, the Australian Government’s Department of Industry and Science, the University of New England, Northern Tablelands Local Land Services, Best Employment, Telstra Inverell and the Glen Innes Examiner,” Mr Stewart said.

The NIIA Categories are: Agriculture / Horticulture and associated services; Health, Aged Care and Disability Services; Retail, Tourism & Leisure; Professional and Government services; Manufacturing and Engineering; and Research and Education. Finalists for each category will be invited to attend the gala awards night, with the general public also encouraged to attend.
