The Indigenous Broadcasting and Media Program – Strengthening Community Broadcasting Grant Opportunity will provide grant funding of up to $4 million (GST exclusive) for grant activities to eligible applicants to strengthen the First Nations community broadcasting sector. 

Program objectives include supporting the First Nations broadcasting and media sector to modernise and stabilise operations and supporting the First Nations broadcasting and media sector to deliver reliable, high quality, culturally and locally relevant broadcasting services.  

The intended outcomes of the grant are:

  • Improved capacity of First Nations broadcasting and media services to deliver high quality broadcasting services.
  • Relevant First Nations news, information, cultural and educational programs remain accessible.
  • Opportunities for training and development in the First Nations Broadcasting and Media sector are provided.
  • Increase in the number of First Nations community broadcasting services operating in Australia.

Eligibility

To be eligible your organisation must:

Have an Australian Business Number (ABN) (exemptions may apply in special cases);

Where relevant, be registered for the purposes of GST;

Have an account, in your name and which you control, with an Australian financial institution;

Provide evidence through letters of support and/or previous First Nations engagement to demonstrate capacity to deliver quality, culturally safe and responsive services for the First Nations communities (for new services); and

Be one of the following entity types:

o    An Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Corporation registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act)

o    A company incorporated in Australia under the Corporations Act 2001

o    An incorporated association (incorporated under state/territory legislation, commonly have 'Association' or 'Incorporated' or 'Inc' in their legal name)

o    An incorporated cooperative

o    An organisation established through a specific piece of Commonwealth or state/territory legislation (e.g. churches and universities)

o    An Australian state or territory government body

o    An Australian local government body

o    An incorporated trustee on behalf of a trust

o    A partnership

o    A joint (consortium) application with a lead organisation that satisfies the entity type.
