The Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Grant (EDAEG) adopts a number of strategies to develop and support Aboriginal people through the creation of training and employment opportunities. Promoting diversity, innovation and service responsiveness in the NSW workforce, the Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Grant subsidises the salary, development and support costs of Aboriginal employees in public service agencies, local government authorities and Aboriginal community controlled organisations.

Key changes for the 2026/27 grant

  • Increased funding for the school-based apprenticeship or traineeship, and post-school employment elements.
  • Removal of the permanent, ongoing employment element.
  • Part qualification element is now only eligible to Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs).
  • Grant applications will be assessed and a decision will be made once the application round closes.

Grant Elements Overivew

  • School-based apprenticeships and traineeships – $12,000 one off payment to support school-based apprenticeships and traineeships.
  • Post-school employment – up to $40,000 (Part-time or Full-time Employment Status) to support the continuation of employment for a learner who successfully completed a High School Certificate (Record of School Achievement (RoSA), Year 10) or equivalent requirements from 2022 to the present day.
  • Aboriginal adult apprenticeships and traineeships (AAAT) – up to $40,000 to support the creation of employment of an apprenticeship or traineeship. Learners must be a minimum 18 years of age to be eligible.
  • Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (only) part qualification reimbursement – up to $5,000 per ACCO staff member. ACCOs may apply for reimbursement of training costs through the EDAEG. The reimbursement supports ACCOs to upskill identified Aboriginal staff members by covering the cost of accredited training or qualifications. ACCOs may seek reimbursement for up to 3 identified Aboriginal staff members, up to a total of $15,000. The training or qualification must be able to be completed within the 2026/2027 financial year – 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027.
  • EDAEG bursary (only for SBAT and post-school elements) – up to $3,000 one off payment to support an approved organisation achieve their program outcomes for either the SBAT or Post School element.
