Under the JobKeeper Payment, businesses significantly impacted by the coronavirus outbreak will be able to access a subsidy from the Government to continue paying their employees. This assistance will help businesses to keep people in their jobs and re-start when the crisis is over. For employees, this means they can keep their job and earn an income – even if their hours have been cut.

There has been changes to the JobKeeper program (known as JobKeeper Extension) as of the 28th of September, including changes to the amount per fortnight, reassessment of eligibility for the extension period and potential eligibility through to the 28th of March 2021.

JobKeeper Payment for Sole Traders ClosedGrant Value: Up to $1,500 per employee Run By: Australian Taxation Office Further Information: https://www.ato.gov.au/general/jobkeeper-payment/sole-traders/

Sole traders may be eligible to receive the JobKeeper Payment if their turnover has reduced. Following registration by the eligible business, the Government will provide a fortnightly subsidy per eligible employee This will support sole traders to maintain their income and connection with employees.

Boosting Cash Flow for Employers ClosedGrant Run By: Australian Taxation Office Further Information: https://business.gov.au/risk-management/emergency-management/coronavirus-information-and-support-for-business/boosting-cash-flow-for-employers

Provides up to $100,000 back to small and medium-sized businesses, with a minimum payment of $20,000 for eligible businesses. The payments will provide cash flow support to businesses with a turnover of less than $50 million and not-for-profit entities that employ staff.  The payment will be tax free.

Supporting Apprentices and Trainees ClosedGrant Run By: Australian Apprenticeship Support Network Further Information: https://business.gov.au/risk-management/emergency-management/coronavirus-information-and-support-for-business/supporting-apprentices-and-trainees

If you employ an apprentice or trainee you may be eligible for a wage subsidy of 50 per cent of their wage paid from 1 January 2020 to 30 September 2020. You can register for the subsidy from early April 2020.

From Tuesday 7th of April 2020 the NSW Government has deferred payroll tax payments for all businesses for six months in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Businesses with payrolls of $10 million or less will also be eligible for a 25 per cent reduction in their annual liabilities for 2019-20, when they complete their annual reconciliation.

International Freight Assistance Mechanism ClosedGrant Closed: 30th of June 2021 Run By: Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment Further Information: https://business.gov.au/Risk-management/Emergency-management/Coronavirus-information-and-support-for-business/International-Freight-Assistance-Mechanism

$110 million will help exporters get their high-quality produce into key overseas markets. Return flights will bring back items critical to the ongoing health response. This includes vital medical supplies, medicines and equipment.

The target is high-value agricultural and fisheries exports, predominantly for perishable products where Australian exporters have important established customers in markets.

Eligible products may include:

  • seafood, including lobsters
  • premium red meat, including beef and pork
  • dairy, including fresh milk and yoghurt
  • horticulture, including premium fruits and packaged salad or vegetables.
