First Home Buyers Assistance Scheme Grant Closes: Ongoing Run By: NSW Government Department of Revenue Further Information: https://www.revenue.nsw.gov.au/grants-schemes/first-home-buyer/assistance-scheme

If you are a first home buyer in NSW, you may be eligible for a full exemption or a reduced rate of transfer duty under the First Home Buyers Assistance Scheme.

To be eligible for the First Home Buyers Assistance Scheme:

  • the purchase must be for a new or existing home, or vacant land in NSW
  • the property value must be within the threshold amounts
  • the transfer must be for the whole property
  • you must be an individual, (not a company or trust*)
  • you must be over 18*
  • you and your spouse or partner, must never have owned or co-owned residential property in Australia
  • you and your spouse or partner, must never have previously received an exemption or concession under the scheme
  • at least one of the first home buyers must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • for new or existing homes, you must meet the requirements for living in the property.

*This requirement may be waived upon application. Contact Revenue NSW for more information.

Motor Vehicle Duty Relief Grant Closes: Ongoing Run By: NSW Government Department of Revenue Further Information: https://www.revenue.nsw.gov.au/taxes-duties-levies-royalties/motor-vehicle-duty/relief

If your motor vehicle was destroyed in a declared natural disaster, the NSW government may be able to refund any motor vehicle duty you pay on a replacement vehicle.

They may also be able to:

  • give you more time to lodge any documents or returns
  • defer enforcing any fines against you
  • extend your payment deadlines
  • agree not to charge you interest
  • arrange for you to pay any debts to us in instalments.

You may be eligible for a motor vehicle duty refund if:

  • your vehicle was destroyed in a declared NSW Severe Weather and Flooding Event in the specified period, and
  • you paid duty on a replacement vehicle, and
  • your insurance did not cover the duty for a replacement vehicle (if your destroyed vehicle was comprehensively insured).

A $10,000 First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) is available when you buy or build your first new home.

Your first new home can be a house, townhouse, apartment, unit or similar that is newly built, purchased off the plan or substantially renovated.

Payroll Tax Concessions Grant Closes: Ongoing Run By: NSW Government Department of Revenue Further Information: https://www.revenue.nsw.gov.au/news-media-releases/covid-19-tax-relief-measures/covid-19-coronavirus-and-payroll-tax

Payroll tax customers have the option of deferring their payroll tax payments until 14 January 2022. All customers are still required to lodge the 2020/21 annual reconciliation by the due date which has been extended to 14 January 2022. In addition, customers have the option of deferring their monthly payments for the July to December 2021 return periods until 14 January 2022.

From 13 December 2021, customers will be able to establish a Support Payment Arrangement for up to 12 months. The plan will be interest free and customers will have the option to include tax payable from the 2020/21 annual reconciliation and any monthly liabilities for July to December 2021 return periods.

The initiative also includes a 50% reduction in 2021/22 payroll tax liability for business with grouped Australian wages of $10 million or less who experience a 30 per cent decline in turnover.
