This program aims to encourage training and continued development of a highly skilled Australian workforce by connecting industries and occupations traditionally associated with the apprenticeships system. The Program also targets a broad range of traineeships and apprenticeships in new and emerging industries, particularly where future skills shortages are projected.

The Program includes a range of employer incentives and personal benefit payments to Australian Apprentices. It also links into the industries and occupations traditionally associated with the apprenticeship system.

Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements Grant Closes: 31st of March 2022 Value: Up to $7,000 per quarter per trainee or apprentice Run By: Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment Further Information: https://www.dese.gov.au/boosting-apprenticeship-commencements

This program supports businesses and Group Training Organisations to take on new apprentices and trainees with the aim of providing skills for economic recovery.

Any business that engages an Australian apprentice between the 5th of October 2020 to the 31st of March 2022 may be eligible. The subsidy is for 50% of wages paid to a new apprentice or trainee. Up to a maximum of $7,000 per quarter is available for 12 months from the date of commencement.

There is no cap on the number of eligible trainees or apprentices.

The new $1 billion JobTrainer program will provide up to an additional 340,700 training places to help school leavers and job seekers access short and long courses to develop new skills in growth sectors and create a pathway to more qualifications.

Courses will be free or low cost in areas of identified need, with the Federal Government providing $500 million with matched contributions from state and territory governments.

Restart Grant Closes: Ongoing Value: Up to $10,000 Run By: Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment Further Information: https://www.dese.gov.au/restart-help-employ-mature-workers

Restart is a financial incentive of up to $10,000 (GST inclusive) to encourage businesses to hire and retain mature age employees who are 50 years of age and over.

Payments are made by employment services providers to businesses over six months. Employers can negotiate how often they receive the payments. Employers may also be able to receive a kickstart payment of up to 40 per cent of the total amount after four weeks of the job starting.
