Export Market Development Grants (Post July 2021)

Austrade’s Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) program helps Australian businesses grow their exports in overseas market

The Export Market Development Grants Program has been revised in 2021. These details are for the new program which covers expenses incurred post July 2021. See our separate grant listing for the older program which covers costs up to July 2021 and closes in November 2021.

The EMDG program now provides upfront funding certainty so you know how much you will receive over the life of your grant agreement (2 or 3 years) and you can plan your promotional activities with confidence.

Small to medium enterprise (SME) exporters can apply for 3 different grants over 8 years (not necessarily consecutively) for eligible promotional activities.

Grants are available in 3 stages, called tiers. Each tier provides a different level of support to SMEs as they grow their export markets:

• Tier 1: Ready to export- For first time exporters with grants for a maximum 2 years and maximum $40,000 per financial year
• Tier 2: Expanding - For expanding your export promotion activities with grants for a maximum 3 years and maximum $80,000 per financial year
• Tier 3: Expanding and strategic shift - For expanding your export promotion activities and making a strategic shift, for example targeting a new market or a new type of customer, with grants for a maximum 3 years and maximum $150,000 per financial year

Assistance for industry bodies and alliances (representative bodies) extends to helping members who are new to export to become export ready. Industry bodies and alliances will continue to have access to financial assistance for promotional activities on behalf of their members in international markets, with grants of up to $150,000 per year.
